One of the biggest challenges facing Mustang adoption is the lack of handling and training these horses receive before becoming eligible for adoption. Because Mustangs are truly wild- often never having experienced human touch- they can pose real challenges, and risks, for the average horse owner.
Because the federal government is solely responsible for managing wild Mustangs- limited resources, knowledge, and infrastructure often mean these horses do not receive the necessary foundation they need before adoption. As a result, many adopters find themselves unprepared, discouraged and at risk, which leads to horses ending up in dangerous and heartbreaking situations.
TAMO offers a compassionate and practical solution. Every Mustang in our organization participates in an individualized training program- rooted in exemplary horsemanship and care- before being offered for adoption. We do not place a time limit on training. Each horse receives a tailored curriculum, specific to their unique needs, before moving on to the next phase of the program.
Through public demonstrations, educational outreach, and partnerships with highly experienced trainers, TAMO not only prepares Mustangs for their new lives but also prepares people with the tools, knowledge, skills and confidence to succeed in their adoption journey.
